Assistant Scientist As an analytical chemist you would be responsible for the preparation and extraction of samples for analysis as well as the determination of residues in foodstuffs and environmental matrices by GC or LC-MS. In addition, you will contribute to instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and repair, and to deliver training as required. Role Accountabilities: Accountable for the various steps in the analysis of chemical residues in accordance with SOP's and meeting the appropriate quality criteria. Contributing to the data reported to external customers meeting deadlines effectively and efficiently. What you'll be doing: Extract and clean-up samples in preparation for analysis. Instrumental analyses using established methods and novel techniques. Support sample prep during busy periods - log samples onto the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and prepare samples when required Report chromatographic data for timely delivery to accreditation standards. Contribute to instrument maintenance and repair, training others as required. Be aware of and follow the appropriate quality assurance and safety procedures. Write and work from Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to defined quality standards. Deliver training to internal staff and external delegates. Contribute to and / or write customer reportss required What we're looking for: Knowledge of wet chemistry techniques. Experience of sample extraction and clean-up. Knowledge of LC-MS or GC-MS theory and practice. Experience in GC or LC-MS (instrument set-up and/or data processing. Good IT skills and the ability to pick up the use of bespoke software to a high level. Ability to learn and implement new laboratory techniques. Flexible and adaptable approach to work. Self-motivated and have an ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues and other team members across the program. Good organisational and time management skills, have the ability to work on multiple projects A methodical approach to work and attention to detail. Shows ability to effectively troubleshoot.
