JOB TITLE: Care Assistant - Day Shift or Night Shift ACCOUNTABLE TO: Proprietor / Manager / Nursing Staff RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. To ensure that appropriate individual care is given to each resident, in accordance with the Care Plans and to principles of understanding the residents individualised needs and choices. 2. To assist in the daily care of the residents, helping with dressing / undressing, washing, bathing and personal hygiene where necessary whilst encouraging and assisting the resident to remain as independent as possible. 3. To help residents with problems of mobility and other physical disabilities (e.g. incontinence), helping with the use of disability aids and caring for the same, where appropriate. 4. To promoting respect and ensuring residents’ privacy and dignity is maintained at all times whilst assisting residents with personal care and going about their activities of daily living. 5. To help with the organisation of social activities, and to participate in them to help promote residents' esteem and physical and mental well-being. To accompany residents on community visits where required and as duty rotas permit. 6. To help with the setting up of the dining room / meal trays in readiness for meal-times. 7. To help serve food, assisting residents with eating and drinking as required. To prepare light meals and snacks if required, liaising with kitchen staff as necessary and being mindful of residents special dietary needs. 8. To help clear up the dining room after meals, ensuring all dirty cutlery, crockery and utensils are returned to the kitchen. 9. To help make and change beds, and assist with light domestic duties such as tidying rooms, dusting, polishing, cleaning windows (internal surfaces) and emptying commodes as may be required. 10. To collect residents' dirty clothing and take to the laundry, and return laundered and ironed clothes to the residents. To assist residents with the completion and subsequent checking-off of their Laundry Lists as required. To inspect and mend / darn clothing where practical. 11. To monitor residents' conditions, and report any changes to the Nursing staff / Person-in-Charge as necessary. 12. To help maintain a safe and healthy environment in the Home with due regard to appropriate Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations. To report all accidents to the Person-in-Charge. 13. To read and write reports, and to participate in the ongoing evaluation of the Care Plans and staff and residents' meetings as appropriate. 14. To participate in training activities / courses, as directed by senior staff. 15. To assist with End-of-Life Care for residents who are terminally ill. 16. To undertake other duties, as necessary and as reasonably instructed by Senior staff / Person-in-Charge. 17. 2 carers require vehicle access and 2 transport via public transport / walk This job description is not exhaustive and may be subject to change.
