Hoop Recruitment are delighted to be working with an autism charity based in central Cardiff that’s built on values of compassion and understanding. We’re looking for a student mentor to support students on the autistic spectrum on a full-time, permanent basis. This is an ideal opportunity for graduates or people to use their pre-existing experience in a refreshing and rewarding way. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to below: Take personal responsibility for learning about the individual needs of people using the service and how autism affects them specifically Regularly assess the effectiveness of the support provided to referrals and make recommendations for improvement Provide one-to-one assistance with issues such as social skills development, settling into university life, managing deadlines, housing and motivation Making sure service users are aware of all the services provided and working with users to improve the support offered Proactively and positively contribute in meetings and work with other members of the charity to provide multifaceted support Maintain good relationships with external organisations as well as the general public Meet with people by appointment but also participate in the drop in service The ideal candidate will have the following qualities: Experience working with people on the autistic spectrum A university degree Previous experience coaching or training people to help them fulfil their potential Strong interpersonal skills Capable of assessing an individual’s strengths, weaknesses and needs Able to build and maintain positive relationships Able to work proactively on your own initiative This is an opportunity where you’re able to make a meaningful positive impact on the lives of others on a daily basis.
