You can achieve more at St Andrew’s Healthcare An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate Speech and Language Therapist to join our supportive SLT team at St Andrew’s Healthcare. We are committed to improving the quality and experience of patient’s in our care. We are looking for a SLT interested in developing their knowledge working in mental health, and who is passionate about advocating for patients with complex mental health and communications needs. The SLT service at St Andrew’s Healthcare is a centralised profession, responsible for supporting some of the most vulnerable people with their communication and dysphagia needs. Our experienced SLT team provide triage, assessment and interventions for communication and dysphagia across a number of specialties including women’s and men’s mental health, Neuropsychiatry (e.g. Huntington’s Disease, Dementia, Acquired Brain Injury), Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disability and CAMHS. Successful candidates will be supported by Highly Specialist and Specialist SLTs to provide evidence based assessment and interventions to support the multidisciplinary approach to holistic, patient centred care and recovery within a specialty field. We pride ourselves in offering an effective career pathway for newly registered or experienced SLTs interested in specialising in Mental Health. Newly Qualified SLTs will be supported to complete RCSLT competencies under supervision of an experienced Highly Specialist/Specialist SLT. On successful completion of a rigorous preceptorship programme, you will be enrolled onto a funded RCSLT accredited dysphagia course. You will be supported to complete your dysphagia competencies after the course, and will have protected development time with an experienced dysphagia qualified member of the SLT team. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and dedicated, and will provide support for ongoing service development projects to help us achieve this goal. Qualifications/education/Training BSc Speech and Language degree, or equivalent HCPC registered (or awaiting registration if recently qualified) RCSLT membership Experience Knowledge of speech and language therapy assessments and evidence based interventions relevant to the advertised patient groups. Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT). Personal attributes Evidence of personal resilience and aptitude for dealing with challenging, potentially distressing and highly emotional clinical work in a secure setting. Demonstrates flexibility to meet the demands of the service. Other An Enhanced DBS Check will be required for this role. Ability to undertake mandatory relevant training, including Safety Intervention Training.
