Job Title: Trainee Structural Designer Location: Bideford, Devon, GB, EX39 1UF Compensation: £32,020 Benefits Role Type: Full Time Permanent Job ID: SF41161 As a trainee designer, you will assist in the generation of a range of design outputs, including design guidance information, with sufficient detail to enable the safe and effective integration of system and equipment changes to complex warships and submarines. You will also be required to support the development of innovative design solutions across the complete design lifecycle including the production of a range of technical outputs and deliverables to the required standards. What will you be doing? Gain an understanding of procedures, codes and standards and how they are applied to technical activities Update knowledge in relevant technical areas and develop skills and capabilities to enable effective delivery of tasks Produce drawings, models, simple calculations, design base documentation and technical reports Assist more senior designers in a range of activities including, produce elements of estimates, production and test organisations with the compilation of test forms and procedures Undertake day-to-day design activities with guidance and support, in line with all engineering procedures, codes and standards. Contribute to design team decisions, understand why such decisions are made, and their relationship to project objectives The experience you'll bring Qualifications You'll need to hold (or be studying toward) an ONC (or BTEC Level 3) in a relevant engineering subject or to hold a suitable qualification with demonstrable knowledge of (discipline specific) platform systems, design processes and experience in a design environment. Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences To undertake this role, you need to: Have undertaken an engineering apprenticeship in a relevant discipline or possess transferable skills from demonstrable experience in a marine/engineering/technical environment. Possess a general understanding of engineering practices (including an awareness of industry codes and standards) as relevant to discipline. Have appropriate IT, written and verbal communication skills. Develop close working relationships within the wider technical community including other design, safety and engineering teams as well as Project, System and Platform Technical Authorities. You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance. What a role with Babcock offers?
