About the role: The Technical Publications Group is responsible for providing customer quality deliverable documentation sufficient to maintain our delivered simulator devices. This may be in hardcopy and/or Electronic Documentation Facility format. The purpose of the role of a Technical Author is to undertake technical publications and authoring activities to meet customer requirements. This is typically the creation of new or amendment of existing documents to enable the customer to maintain and operate a flight simulator device. The Technical Author has a further technical role in ensuring the manner in which technical problems are resolved is in line with local department and company procedures. Main activities and Job Functions: Analysis of aircraft and equipment manufacturers data. Maintaining plans/schedules and reporting progress. Interfacing with customers. Creation and modification of operating and maintenance documentation in Arbortext or html. Creation and modification of illustrations and images to support documentation using suitable media creation software tools. Creation and modification of interactive electronic technical manuals. Interfacing with internal customers, product training and design and support engineers. Maintain plans and schedules and report progress. Maintain an ethical approach to business in line with L3 Harris Ethics Policy. Additionally, it is expected that responsibilities will include some of the following: training and mentoring of other engineers plan and direct the work of others provide inputs to bids and technical proposals technical authority for a particular system or subject matter Assist in defining internal departmental processes Experience, knowledge and skills required: A suitable qualification (ideally with maths, science or engineering content) or a minimum 2 years appropriate experience in technical authoring industry Typically at least 2 years technical experience in the skill, discipline and/or domain associated with an Engineering bias Experience or knowledge of an HTML based editing tools including PTC Arbortext editor/ styler. Experience or knowledge of an XML based editing tools. Experience or knowledge of image editing tools including Visio and GIMP. Experience or knowledge in website creation to W3C standards. Knowledge of integrated logistic support or through life support engineering principles Be aware of the different phases of a documentation task from release of statement of work to final delivery. Understand the maintenance of delivered customer documentation Will have demonstrated technical expertise, problem solving skill in a prior role Good communication and inter-personal skills Other Skills/Abilities/Behaviours: Exposure to differing Technical Documentation methodologies such as knowledge base articles, how-to-videos and multi-media design and delivery would be an advantage.
