Consultant Principal Geotechnical Engineer Kingston upon Thames The Company: My client is an international engineering consultancy, specialising in design and project management of port infrastructure developments. They have a small, busy team, based in an office by the river Thames in Kingston, with international offices in Australia, India, Argentina and Morocco among other locations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Managing Director and the Associates to ensure the smooth running of the business operations. The Role - Consultant Principal Geotechnical Engineer The successful applicant will manage the Geotechnical team and will provide close support to principal engineers to help deliver geotechnical services in the marine sector whilst also performing specific portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. The role involves: Carrying out geotechnical interpretation and supporting the structural team with geotechnical design needs. Carrying out geotechnical analysis for foundations, slopes, retaining walls and ground improvement processes in complex marine environments. Interacting with Client's on matters related to geotechnical aspects of the projects Attending visits to project sites as required to provide the necessary technical inputs Preparing reports including interpretative reports, specifications, and design reports in line with company quality assurance procedures and client requirements as well as applicable standards and codes of practice. Skills Required: Some of the key duties / requirements are summarised below: BEng degree in Civil Engineering 10 years' experience Ideally an MSc in Soil Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering or related subject is desirable Thorough knowledge of soil mechanics and underlying geotechnical principles Knowledge of ground investigation techniques and in-situ and laboratory test methods for soil and rock Knowledge of Eurocode 7. Knowledge of other parts of Eurocodes is advantageous Experience of using Plaxis software is desirable, but not essential Knowledge of geotechnical data interpretation and parameter derivation for design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and ground improvement Basic programming in VBA or Python. Experience with machine learning would be a plus The Person Essential skills: Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities A strong communicator Self-motivated with a desire for continual learning and improvement Ability to manage a team, mentoring and guiding two other geotechnical staff Adaptable and versatile The ability to work and communicate effectively with other members of the team A willingness to travel on short assignments both within the UK and overseas A full UK driving licence Terms and Conditions of the Appointment Salary £50,000 - £60,000 Full time role (40h per week) Permanent Office based preferred, although hybrid working may be possible (min 3 days per week in the office).
