Learning Support Assistant
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and flexible Learning Support Assistant with the appropriate skills and qualities to work with, and support, pupils with SEMH needs to join our academy, which holds Good Ofsted status. Applications for both experienced LSAs and those with limited experience are welcome. This post will provide an efficient and high quality support to all pupils who is willing to work with teachers and other support staff to complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This will involve supporting the planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities for individuals and small groups and supporting monitoring, recording and assessment. The job purpose is to work in partnership with class teachers to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice and academy policies and procedures. To provide support to pupils in the Science curriculum area across the academy or support pupils with SEMH needs. Providing particular and skilled support to all pupils in our Science learning area and other cover areas as directed. Duties: To assist in providing efficient technical support to the Science department. In particular to prepare, store, maintain, clear materials and equipment used in Science lessons in accordance with Health and Safety regulations. To promote the inclusion of all pupils. In liaison with the class teacher to work with pupils to target identified learning needs. To provide practical support in the classroom to pupils who have recognised learning needs, supporting them to achieve their potential. To work with subject teachers to ensure lesson materials are used effectively in order for pupils to make the expected progress towards their target levels. Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievements, drawing any problems which cannot be resolved easily to the attention of the teacher To support learning by selecting appropriate resources/methods to facilitate agreed learning activities Experience: Experience in working with children and young people of relevant age KS2/KS3/KS4 in a school, SEMH experience is preferred. Good understanding of Science Curriculum and ability to support practical activities – desirable. Enthusiasm to support the Science curriculum - essential. GCSE or equivalent in English, Maths and Science (Grade 4/C or above or equivalent) – essential. Level 2 Functional Skills English & Maths - essential Completion of Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools or equivalent – desirable. Certificate in First Aid or willingness to undertake training – essential. Good understanding of curriculum with ability to support practical activities - essential Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures – essential. Basic understanding of child development and learning – essential. Positive behaviour management skills.
